I am so excited to show off this breathtaking wedding that Chris Morairty and I had the pleasure of photographing. Every detail of this event was absolutely flawless, due to the incredibly fine taste of the bride and groom and some seamless planning by Obsessed Events of Placerville.
Just as beautiful as their wedding day is their love story - Maddy and Sam met during a time in each of their lives that they describe as difficult, and through this meeting found in each other their best friend and life partner. Maddy was working at Cold Springs Golf Course in Placerville, where both she and Sam’s family had been members for some time. Realizing how much they had in common, a strong friendship quickly blossomed and after their first date they realized that they had found in each other what had been missing in their respective lives.
“Sam is my best friend. We have all of the same goals and love all of the same things. He challenges me and makes me a better person. He is so loving, kind, romantic and gentle but is also super spontaneous and outgoing! We have fun cooking fabulous, fun dinners together while chit chatting over a glass of wine, as well as traveling to our favorite place, Lake Tahoe. It really doesn’t matter what we are doing, we love and cherish our relationship. In 2011, I went alone on a 3-month trip to Italy and it was the hardest thing in our lives saying goodbye to each other the day that I left. That was the moment that I realized that my life would be empty without him. We haven’t been apart since the moment that I stepped off the plane, back onto American soil!” - Maddy
We asked Maddy about the proposal - “Sam brought me up to South Lake Tahoe (our favorite getaway) and had this grand scheme of asking me to marry him on the top of Heavenly but I was not feeling well the night that we were supposed to go on the hike so we opted for a walk on the beach. He was so sweet, it was just the two of us and he stopped dead in his tracks so I had to turn and look back at him. There he was, down on one knee with tears of joy running down his face. He asked me to spend the rest of my life with him and of course I said YES! The ring, along with the lake setting, took my breath away. When I told him that it was exactly what I wanted in an engagement ring, he explained that he had hacked my Pinterest account to find out what style of ring that I liked and then he had a local jeweler custom make it. Randolph’s Jeweler, which is located downtown Placerville, did a fabulous job and so did Sam for being so SNEAKY and thoughtful!!”
“I knew Maddy was the woman I would marry fairly quickly. We were best friends long before the engagement. I know it sounds cliché, but I just knew. We always laugh a lot together, but also have our fair share of intellectual fodder. Maddy is smart and witty, so it made for the perfect combination. One of the most important things I admire about Maddy is that she was accepting of my two daughters. Once I introduced them to her, they immediately felt comfortable, and that sealed the deal going forward!” - Sam
Sam and Maddy had an 11-month engagement and wanted their wedding to showcase as many local vendors as possible to give their guests a taste of the things they both love about Placerville. They met Donna Mullen, who is the owner of the venue, through mutual friends. Sam and Maddy had a different venue already picked out when they mentioned that she wanted to start doing weddings at her house. They said it was a case of love at first site when they visited Still Meadow Manor.
“It was us – all outdoors, filled with gorgeous flowers and plants and bursting with love.”
The couple attempted to convey the feeling of a June Midsummer Night’s Dream – romantic and yet simple. Candles/candlesticks and flower full candelabras filled the tables, while six chandeliers hung over the head table, cigar bar, vintage lounge and dance floor. One side of the venue was wrapped in twinkle lights to give a soft glow, while the dinner portion of the venue boasted lots of café lights and chandeliers.
For the ceremony, Dan Jaurequi played the guitar and learned how to sing and play Marry Me by Train for the song that Madeleine walked down the aisle to. The wedding was officiated by Sara Jaurequi. The bridal party consisted of friends as well as Maddy’s three sisters, Sam’s sister, and Sam’s two daughters.
Maddy said that they bought their own flowers from the wholesale market- Flora Fresh- and then took them to Flowers on Main in Placerville. “The Thursday evening before the wedding my mother, mother in law and my three sisters met at Flowers on Main where Melissa Cowan taught us how to make the bouquets and helped guide us in putting together over 90 vases!! She also put together the candelabras and the flowers for the archway that we were married under.”
The couple said that their favorite part of planning the wedding were the date nights when they would make all of the pertinent decisions together. Sam gave Maddy the reins when it came to colors, decorations and details but they got together at least once a week to go over everything that had been picked out and ordered.
The couple opted for a desert table, which had a beautiful cake decorated by the bride and her sisters and mother as well as a mix of cupcakes ranging from salted caramel to raspberry lemonade from Vanilla Bean in Sacramento. They also had “bites and bars” from About a Bite Bakery. “These were so fabulous that we will order them for all other parties and events from now on!” Maddy told us.
Sam has two beautiful little girls – Hannah, 12, and Olivia, 10. Madeleine has a Bichon Frise named Milly. They plan to honeymoon in November in Saint Lucia in November of this year, after hurricane season has passed.
